Architectural Stained Glass - Herter Design
Laurel Herter:
Laurel Herter has been working in architectural art glass for the past thirty years. After receiving her Bachelor’s of Fine Arts degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder, she began her art glass career in Boulder and Denver. A yearlong trip through the South Pacific took her to the art glass studio Stewart and Co. in Christchurch, New Zealand, where she assisted with painting, firing and leading large liturgical windows. After moving to California she worked with Bonny Doon Art Glass, one of the top U.S. contemporary art glass studios, where she specialized in carved sandblasted glass. She relocated to Massachusetts to accept a position at Cummings Studios where she worked as a designer on new projects and assisted with the restoration and conservation of historically significant American and European stained glass windows.
She moved her studios to Bluffton, South Carolina in 1995, where she produces work for clients throughout the United States and Mexico. Her residential work can be seen coast to coast – from San Francisco and New York apartments to vacation homes in Colorado and Mexico. Her commercial and public commissions are found in corporate headquarters in Atlanta, athletic facilities in Silicon Valley and several restaurants and churches in South Carolina. Some of her more unusual commissions can be seen in private jets, private yachts and sculptural installations.
